Make a statement with the Icelandic Wool Throw, designed by artist Védís Jónsdóttir exclusively for The Reykjavik EDITION. Memories of wild vegetation, grassland, moss and lichen fields, views of the sky, ocean, and mountains inspired the rich colors that capture the breathtaking depth of Icelandic nature and vista.
Using a satin weave technique that is normally not used for blankets, the wool threads look like tiny brush strokes on a canvas, while the opposite side of the blanket resembles the back side of a canvas that has been painted and creates a work of art for you to enjoy every day.
Védís Jónsdóttir grew up on a family farm in Borgarfjörður on the west coast of Iceland, where she grew her passion for drawing.
The unspoiled nature, ocean, mountains, and the farm’s wild-at-heart Icelandic sheep had great influence on her design. After graduating from the Danish Design School, she began designing knitwear, later becoming Head Designer at Ístex.
Ístex was established to carry on the Icelandic wool industry that started in Mosfellsbær in 1896. Ístex buys directly from farmers and processes about 99% of all Icelandic wool. They offer high quality products from Icelandic wool to customers that choose natural, sustainable and eco-friendly living. Their wool is certified STANDARD 100 by OEKO-TEX®.
Jónsdóttir is best known for having revitalized Icelandic hand knitting by introducing new forms and intricate color combinations.
